	Our long-time friend, companion and colleague Dr. Anja Christinck passed away on 19.08.2022. Anja has been employed at DITSL since 2009 in various studies and projects. In addition to her contribution to the ReLOAD project, where she helped shape the transdisciplinary methodology, she carried out project activities on seeds, especially on the conservation of peasant breeding lines. She was particularly concerned about the sovereignty of smallholder breeders over their plant genetic resources. For several years, she has been very active in establishing a scientific cooperation with the Fritjoff Nansen Institute in Norway. Anja mostly worked from her home in Gersfeld Gichenbach near Fulda. Anja suffered from cancer since July 2021. In May of this year, she gave a lecture here in Witzenhausen on the occasion of a project visit by Kazakh colleagues as part of the SAGRIS project. Although marked by the disease, she was full of courage and confident that she would get the disease under control. According to her sister, her health deteriorated rapidly only shortly before her death. Anja was not only a colleague to us, but also a friend we knew from our student days in Hohenheim - that is, for over 30 years. We have many fond memories of her as a dear contemporary and of the inspiring exchanges with her. We miss her very much.
Training	Anja Christinck studied agricultural sciences at the Universities of Göttingen and Hohenheim (1986-1992). She specialised in plant production with a focus on soil sciences, organic and tropical farming systems, and later shifted to agricultural communication and extension science. She holds a doctoral degree in agricultural social sciences from the University of Hohenheim (2002).
Career	From 1993-94, she worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Plant Production in the Tropics and Subtropics, University of Hohenheim. From 1994-1997, she was a team leader in a social education project focusing on organic farming and cheese production in central Germany. From 1996-1999, she joined a collaborative project on plant breeding, seed and agrobiodiversity issues involving various stakeholders in Rajasthan, India, and subsequently worked as a freelance consultant and researcher for nearly 15 years, before joining DITSL as a senior scientist in May 2013.
Experience abroad	Since 1988, Anja Christinck has worked in various countries, mainly in India, Ecuador and Colombia.
Research	Her current research interests include methodologies for dialogue and joint learning of scientists and non-academic stakeholders in research projects, particularly in relation to plant breeding, seed and agrobiodiversity issues, and more generally to food and nutrition security and sustainable rural development.
