Training Hussein trained as a high school teacher at the Kenya Science Teachers College (1999), later studied Bachelor of Science degree (Botany and Zoology) at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya) in 2002 and Master of Science in Natural Resource Management and Sustainable Agriculture at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Norway) in 2006.
Career He has worked for CARE International in Kenya for over 4 years in Northern Kenya. During his time with CARE Hussein worked in various projects which included institutional capacity building of Community Based Organizations, HIV prevention through behaviour change communication, livelihood diversification and community based adaptation to climate change.
Research Interests
His main research interest is on areas of pastoral livelihood systems particularly on pastoral land use systems and carbon stocks, resource use conflict, livelihoods and climate change adaptation.
Current research projects The topic of his PhD research is “Assessing pastoralists grazing management and its impacts on carbon biomass in the Borana plateau of southern Ethiopia”. He conducts his PhD in the frame of the collaborative research project “Livelihood diversifying potential of livestock based carbon sequestration options in pastoral and agro pastoral systems in Africa” led by ILRI and funded by BMZ.
